Influenster Beauty Blogger VoxBox 2012

Recently, Influenster revamped their website and offered a couple of new boxes to members, including a beauty bloggers box. I was excited to be one of the lucky ones to receive one, so let's see the goodies that were sent to us.

NYC New York Color IndividualEyes Custom Compact:

I received the Dark Shadows limited edition collection of four shadows, an illuminator and a primer. The shadow colors are white, silver/gray, dark gray and black. The first three are shimmers, the black also contains some larger silver sparkles.
The primer is a peachy color, and has a nice and creamy consistency. The illuminator is a pearly white, and as creamy as the primer.
I love NYC products, and this palette is no exception. I used the primer and the two gray shadows for a work-appropriate look, and while the shadows did stay on all day, I had to deal with a good amount of creasing, which usually isn't a problem for me.
All the shadows are nicely pigmented, but the dark gray is darker and more opaque than the black.

Kiss Ever Pro Lashes Starter Kit:

I don't use false eyelashes, since I'm way too clumsy to apply them. While this set has everything to get you started, I haven't tried it out yet.

Bath & Body Works Mini Candles:

I always enjoy getting scented candles in my subscription/sample boxes, but I'm not quite sure why this box included one. It's a beauty bloggers box, so I would have preferred another beauty product, rather than a scented candle.
I received the Mahogany/Teakwood sample, not a scent I would ever buy. While it's not horrible, the candle does smell like an old man's cologne. The scent is fairly overpowering if you're near it, but thankfully it doesn't travel much or linger.
This VoxBox also came with a $10 off coupon for Bath & Body Works' three-wick candles, which slashes their price just about in half. It's a nice addition, since the candle was a dud for me.

Another item that left me wondering why it was included in a beauty bloggers box. Effervescent powders? Really? It dubiously claims to boost your "...mood, focus and immunity..." It's not something I'd ever take, and went straight into the trash. Another dud.

Goody Simple Styles Spin Pin:

Now this, I like! I've been stalking the Spin Pin for a while, trying to figure out if it would work on my hair or not. My hair is really thick and heavy and most hair pins and clips just can't hold it up. I'm always looking for ways to keep it out of my face.
The Spin Pin retails for $7.29, which I think is a bit high for two spiral bobby pins.
I received the version for light hair, and mine is dark brown. I tried to make this work, but so far, no luck. No matter what I try, it won't hold my hair.

Not Your Mother's Kinky Moves Curl Defining Hair Cream:

Since my hair is wavy, not curly, I wasn't sure about this product. I don't try to enhance the curl in my hair, since I prefer it straight. I applied some of the product to towel-dried hair, and it definitely pumped up the curl factor. It lasted overnight and most of the next day (and smelled divine). Hmmm. Maybe it's time to start wearing my hair curly sometimes? This product rocks.

Vitabath Fragrance Mist:

I love body spray, it's one of my favorite item to receive in sample boxes. I usually keep a bottle at work, one in the car, and then a couple at home. My box included the lavender & chamomile scent, which is nice, but again, not something I would have chosen.
The scent is fairly sweet and heavy, almost overpowering. If the Bath & Body Works candle smells like old man cologne, this is the female version. Not something I'd wear, but it has turned out to be a nice room and fabric deodorizer. Yeah, I'm using body spray for something it wasn't intended for, but the scent is a lot better if it has room to waft and slowly dissipate.

Final thoughts...

~ Nice range and number of products
~ Full size body spray, not a sample and 1.5 oz sample of hair cream
~ The $10 Bath & Body Works candle coupon is great, about a 50% discount

~ A couple of items I wouldn't have picked for a beauty box: effervescent powder and a scented candle. I can kind of understand the candle, but I'm still puzzled about the powder.
~ Hair cream didn't match my hair type, and hair accessory didn't match my color. I wish there were a way we can set up beauty profiles with the most basic info.

All in all, I love the Influenster program. It's a great way to try new products, and maybe get backups of your faves. You'll get a dud every once in a while, but hey, this box is FREE!!
